The department provides internal medicine services including: endoscopy, chemotherapy, bone marrow transplantation & other clinical assessment services
The Internal Medicine Department is the largest department at KHCC. Our oncologists and specialists are at the core of medical care for adult patients. Even when patients do not require chemotherapy, the Internal Medicine Department works alongside other specialists to formulate a treatment plan. We believe in not just specialization, but also in sub-specialization so our oncologists have unique experiences in their specific fields. We stay up-to-date on the most recent advances in cancer treatment by appraising peer-reviewed studies from leading journals, as well as attending international conferences for the latest in medical advances. This combination of knowledge, experience and dedication make our department a leader in advancing cancer care in Jordan and the region.
The Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplantation Program at KHCC performs around 120 transplants every year. Since the establishment of the program, more than 700 transplants have been performed. It is one of the largest and most successful programs in the Middle East, achieving cure rates comparable with international standards. It oversees both matched allogeneic and autologous transplants.
The KHCC BMT program performs transplants utilizing cord blood, making it the only program in Jordan and the second in the region to offer such a highly specialized procedure.
Non-cancer cases are also transplanted through the KHCC BMT program, including thalassemia, aplastic anemia and other metabolic diseases. Read Less

Nuclear medicine is a medical specialty involving the application of radioactive substances in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Specialists at KHCC use safe, painless, and cost-effective techniques to scan the body and treat oncologic diseases. Approximately 3,500 nuclear medicine scans and therapeutic procedures are performed every year for KHCC patients. The high quality of these scans enables oncologists to stage and re-stage patients accurately, evaluate response, planning radiotherapy treatment and deliver high doses of targeted radionuclide treatment in some types of cancer (e.g. differentiated thyroid cancer treated with radioactive iodine).

Drug procurement includes purchases from the local market as well as the importation of medications from abroad that are not available in Jordan hence, providing KHCC patients with access to the most advanced cancer therapeutics. We take pride in the fact that we closely cooperate with the Jordan Food & Drug Administration (JFDA) to make sure that essential drugs are always available to our patients.
Drugs are distributed to hospitalized patients using the unit-dose distribution system. Intravenous medications are prepared by pharmacists in a sterile preparation facility that ensures the drugs are not contaminated, as might happen if they were prepared by nurses in the floor. In addition, chemotherapy medications are prepared inside a special device called a biological safety cabinet that decreases the risk of contamination from these chemotherapy agents. More recently, the pharmacy introduced a closed system for preparing such agents that has virtually cut the risk of contamination to 0%. Read Less
