Professional Background
Dr. Masri is a Senior Consultant Rheumatologist at Jordan Hospital, Amman (Jordan) since 1998. Prior to that, he worked for several years in France’s various public hospitals and universities. Dr. Basel Masri received his degree in Rheumatology from Grenoble Medical School in France in 1989. His last professional role in France was in the Department of Neurology and Rheumatology in Avignon Hospital Center (1989 - 1993) in France. In 1993, he decided to return to his home country, Jordan to set up his private practice in Amman. In 1998 he joined Jordan Hospital as Senior Consultant Rheumatologist, to date. Dr. Masri is the first Jordanian Rheumatologist to use the musculoskeletal ultrasound which is the most up-to-date technology that accurately detects and diagnoses rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions (as in inflammatory joints disease, regional disorders, tendonitis and others). This technology is also used to monitor the progress in patients’ conditions. Dr. Masri is the founder of the Jordan Osteoporosis Center in 1999. He is the Founding President of the Jordanian Osteoporosis Prevention Society. He is a member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation - IOF (Switzerland) and a member of the International Society for Clinical Densitometry - ISCD (USA). Dr. Masri was the Head of the First Jordanian Osteoporosis National Record (FiJoNOR) in 2004. This was a study carried out to measure the prevalence of post-menopausal Osteoporosis amongst Jordan’s female population as well as the prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency. Dr. Masri dedicates much of his focus and time in studies and researches conducted in the areas of Musculoskeletal Disorder particularly in Osteoporosis, Clinical Bone Densitometry, Inflammatory Joint Diseases (as in Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematous, Spondyloarthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Behçet Disease), Osteoarthritis, spine pain and regional pain as neck & shoulder, low back pain, hands and feet disorders like flat feet.
