Eyebrow Transplant

Definition of hair growing eyebrows

With the prevalence and development of hair transplantation in recent decades, many are turning to this type of remedies for the treatment of multiple hair loss problems, whether genetic or as a result of an injury. Eyebrow hair transplantation is one of the most recently spread types of transplantation, this technique depends on the extraction of the follicles from the soft hair in the posterior area of the head and transplanting them in the eyebrows. Eyebrows are sensitive because of the proximity of the eyes, also that eyebrows work as a frame of the face, so the choice of professional specialist in this area is one of the most important things to be considered for those who want to perform eyebrow transplantation.

Eyebrow transplantation takes about two to three days.

What are the reasons for eyebrow hair transplantation?

Some men and women may resort to hair transplantation in the eyebrow area due to complete hair loss as a result of one of the following factors:

  • Genetic causes lead to eyebrows hair loss.
  • One of thyroid diseases.
  • An accident such as burning or direct injury to the brow.
  • Undergoing chemotherapy.

Pre-requisite tests before eyebrow hair transplantation

The person who wants to undergo hair implantation is asked to conduct a group of tests before implanting hair using and technique, including:

  • Blood tests: CBC, HCV, PT, APTT, HIV ELISA, HBs AG, Bleeding time, coagulation time, Sugar level (glucose).
  • Electrocardiography (ECG).

Steps of eyebrow hair transplantation

Several techniques can be used for eyebrow transplantation; following are the used techniques with an explanation for each:

  1. Eyebrow hair transplantation by follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS): The area of the scalp to be applied is anesthetized, then the specialist cuts a strip of the skin in the posterior area of the scalp or what is known as the occipital area after being locally anesthetized, after that the incision is then closed with stitches, the cut strip from the scalp is separated by cutting it into small sections of 300 to 500 as required, some may contain one follicle and others may contain several other follicles, then precise holes are then made in the eyebrow area to prepare them for the transplantation of the follicles extracted from the donor area, after that the follicles are inserted in these holes.
  2. Eyebrow transplantation with Choi pens DHI: The hair follicles extracted through the pens are put directly into the eyebrow area along with hair growth direction, where they are pressed with pens to bring the extracted follicle into the follicle channel.
  3. Eyebrow hair transplantation with FUE technique: The hair follicles are harvested one by one from the back of the scalp after shaving it, and then the excised follicles are kept in a special solution and selected the best ones to grow in the eyebrow area. The eyebrows are then sterilized and anesthetized and tiny holes are made to insert the hair follicles consecutively.

* All previous techniques are performed after local anesthesia of the eyebrows.

Recovery duration after eyebrow hair transplant

The patient may experience pain and bleeding, sometimes with a swelling in the eyebrow area that lasts for about four days after the eyebrow hair transplant, the specialist can prescribe some medications that may help the patient to overcome such problems.

Hair loss from implanted follicles begins during the third or fourth week after eyebrow transplantation, but this is normal and not a reason for worry, as the hair follicles attached to the bottom of the skin are responsible for the start of new hair growth after about four months.

Hair follicles are harvested from the head so they grow faster and are longer than required for eyebrow hair, so eyebrows hair should be cut and trimmed every month or according to a person's natural growth rate.
